LUCKS | Rotor LDM
Rotor measurement during operation
Dynamic measurement of blade angle, deflection and structural response.
Measure. Access the data. Understand the result.

Secure energy yield • Reduce additional loads • Understand turbine behaviour
Deviations in the rotor directly affect wind turbine operation. Differences in blade angle can reduce energy yield, while aerodynamic or mass imbalances generate additional cyclic loads.
The key question is therefore not only whether a deviation exists, but how it affects the turbine during operation.
Rotor LDM measures rotor and structural behaviour under real operating conditions. This allows deviations to be assessed technically and avoidable yield losses and additional loads to be reduced.
What does Rotor LDM measure?
A single measurement captures several parameters of rotor and turbine behaviour simultaneously.
Blade angle and pitch angle measurement
Relative differences in blade angle are determined from the blade passages during operation. This allows deviations between the three rotor blades to be identified and assessed.
Blade deflection and tower clearance
The blade position is measured during each passage and referenced to the tower axis. This makes differences between the rotor blades and changes with operating conditions visible.
Rotational speed and rotor movement
The time intervals between blade passages provide the rotational speed and information about rotor movement.
Tower and nacelle response
DStructural motion is recorded in parallel. This makes it possible to investigate whether rotor deviations are associated with a response of the turbine.
How does the measurement work?
One laser • One measurement path • Measurement during operation
Rotor LDM measures the rotor blades sequentially as they pass through a spatially fixed laser measurement path. The high-resolution distance data from each blade passage are analysed and compared with one another.

Ground – upwind
The laser is aimed at the tower. The rotor blades pass through the measurement path in front of the tower. Blade position and deflection are referenced to the tower axis.

Ground – downwind
The rotor blades are measured from the rear of the turbine. The blade passages provide information on blade angle, blade position and rotor behaviour.

Nacelle
The laser measures from the nacelle into the rotor. Nacelle motion is recorded in parallel and analysed and assessed as part of the evaluation.
Not every deviation is relevant
A difference in blade angle or a deviation in blade motion is initially a measured value. The key question is whether and how the deviation affects turbine behaviour.
Blade angle → Deflection → Tower response → Technical assessment
Rotor LDM combines the measured rotor parameters with the response of the tower or nacelle. This allows deviations not only to be detected, but also to be assessed in the context of actual turbine behaviour.
This shows which deviations are merely present and which have an effect on the overall system
